4 Units in this MasterTrack® Certificate

Know Your People

In this unit, you’ll explore a range of concepts, theories, and methodologies to navigate and optimize workplace relationships in the context of a changing landscape brought about by globalization and increasingly competitive business environments. As organisations continue to shed hierarchies and silos in favor of a flatter and more team-driven structure, people management strategies are becoming ever-more crucial for organisational success. In this program, you’ll learn how to motivate people across an entire organization, focusing on strategy, employee experience, and performance management. In structured learning activities, you’ll examine available evidence around different approaches for enhancing employee, team, and organisational outcomes, and you’ll do so through the lenses of talent, diversity, and culture, as well as human resource management. You’ll explore advanced strategies for delivering positive outcomes in simulated real-life scenarios, with a particular focus on the changes associated with the future of work and new implications for managing people in complex and dynamic environments.

Know Your Organisation

In this unit, you’ll deepen your understanding of the phenomenon of organisational change, understanding it not just as the outcome of a planned decision, but also as a continuous process of transformation, and even as the result of reactions to unforeseen disruptions and crises. You’ll analyze and reflect on real cases of organizational change, and use several diagnostic tools to recognize the driving forces of transformation. You’ll consider impacts on stakeholders, and discover practical actions that can be performed that will enable you to navigate these processes with the logic of responsible and ethical stewardship. As you progress through the unit, you’ll develop change and transition management skills alongside new leadership capabilities that bring together technical, political, and ethical elements.

Adapt Your Leadership Style

In this unit, you’ll discover the ways authentic, transformational, and inclusive leadership styles can provide compelling alternatives to command and control approaches that are more autocratic and job-centric. You’ll critically examine Henry Mintzberg’s observation that much of a leader’s time is spent addressing the complex and ambiguous interruptions of a messy organisational reality, and reflect on the necessity of adopting adaptive and resilient practices to cope. You’ll delve into how the digital transformation of work has dramatically altered the perception of leadership, and explore why all organizational members are now expected to embrace some form of self-leadership when it comes to the complex team and project work that increasingly defines the “future of work.” You’ll learn more about why these new demands are causing tensions between traditional leadership approaches and newly emerging practices and strategies that focus on the agility and nimbleness necessary for success in today’s ultra-competitive and increasingly disruptive marketplace, and you’ll be asked to critically examine adaptive leadership practices that can potentially be employed to minimize these tensions.

Become a Meaning Maker

In this unit, you’ll consider the question of how leaders envision futures, and how they promote their visions in ways that convey meaning and drive change and innovation, even in the face of complexity and ambiguity. You’ll consider these challenges through the lenses of leadership, vision, and identity. Drawing on theories such as internal marketing, you’ll explore ways to create a compelling vision, and learn strategies and techniques for communicating your vision with impact and meaning. You’ll discover how to build personal power to exert influence, and how to harness the transformative power of social identity to sustain commitment to your vision. Special attention will be given to the role of identity in leading across cultures and borders. In exploring these concepts, you’ll build an understanding of how storytelling can engage and influence people in ways that go beyond traditional communication approaches. You’ll also explore the role of brands and visual identity in organizational success, and develop an awareness of how brand identity can clarify and reinforce vision, both within an organization, and for external partners and customers as well.
